“When I started working with Jillian, I was in a bit of a slump. I had lost a lot of my forward progress because I allowed life to get in the way. Struggles with family relationships, burnout in my career and being knocked down by Covid were a couple of things that had made me feel depleted and stuck.
Working with Jillian was just what I needed to get back on track. We quickly worked on cocreating goals and bringing back much of my selfcare that I had let slide. My Mindfulness Testimonial for Jillian Phelan.
“My Mindfulness experience with Jillian was wonderful and, in one instance, personally life-changing. With every session we shared together, she was fully present, always flexible regarding the scheduling of our sessions, and was always gracious. She was always ready to lead well, and was always willing to be led during each session of our mindfulness exercises. On one particular session, Jillian provided a semi-hypnotic experience that allowed me to break free of chains in which I had been shackled for decades. These were the chains of un-forgiveness, which I had firmly held against a close family member who passed away several years ago. Now, to be clear, this was not an “out-of-body” or “séance” experience as some might think. No, but within the imagery Jillian provided during this particular mindfulness session, I was able to interact with my deceased family member in a realistic face-to-face manner, share my un-forgiveness openly, and ask her for forgiveness for my failure to forgive her while she was living. As if she were living, I was able to embrace her as she gently asked for my forgiveness for the negative experiences she brought into my life. I sensed those chains dropping to our feet, leaving both my relative and I weeping while sensing our forgiveness of each other simply surround us. As we eventually parted ways we were able to smile at one another one last time, while giving thanks for this opportunity. As I left her, I sensed peace and joy, somehow ‘knowing’ that some day we would reunite and celebrate this moment together. Not only was this a very special personal moment for me, it spoke of the power of mindfulness techniques to bring unexpected healing to one’s life when least expected. While Mindfulness exercises may seem to simply allow an opportunity to “recalibrate” a straying session or bring calm when such is desperately needed, they also hold the power to change minds and hearts in the weakest moments of someone’s difficult journey. While I enjoyed every moment of the Mindfulness sessions I had the privilege of sharing with Jillian, as I hope she did, I will never forget the opportunity she unexpectedly brought to my life in this single moment of connectedness with a deceased family member, who now resides behind a curtain in a place unseen by we who presently live among mortal humanity on this side of the curtain. I will forever be thankful to Jillian for so graciously leading me to a place of personal peace and joy. Thank you, friend.”

“Jillian has been absolutely wonderful to work with. She is very kind and compassionate in her practice. Before starting our sessions I wasn’t aware of just how much I was ignoring about myself and my own personal needs. In my personal life, I’ve been putting everyone’s else’s needs ahead of my own and in doing so I lost myself in the process. Through our talks Jillian asked very blunt and thought provoking questions that forced me to think about myself. I realized that I didn’t even know who I was anymore. I had lost a sense of myself. I realized I was just not happy.
The tools Jillian gave were excellent and continue to invoke questions about myself and my own wants and needs. She gave very good ideas to help cope with the challenges of day to day life. “I have known and worked professionally and personally with J Phelan, RN for over 5 years. She has helped me spiritually and mentally through some very rough phases in my life. Before being coached by Nurse Jillian, I had fallen into a sedentary lifestyle demonstrated by a daily cycle of work, eat, and sleep. This pattern lacked any desire or motivation to workout or even consider increasing my activity level beyond what was absolutely necessary to get through the day. After many years of this routine, I found myself developing Type 2 diabetes and hypertension, both requiring daily doses of medication. As the years progressed and my weight increased, eventually I attained an obese BMI of 31 (I once weighed 145 lbs). With the extra weight due to heavy carbohydrate consumption and the lack of exercise, my medication dosages began to climb. Resulting from these increasing dosages I began to develop undesired medication-related side effects that were not pleasing and interfered with certain aspects of my life that I previously enjoyed. I began to seek answers and discover means to reverse these undesirable side effects. After much research including phone calls, YouTube videos, and multiple internet searches, I discovered that strength training to increase my overall muscle mass and decrease my body fat, and a variety of approaches to achieving a more balanced diet, offered the greatest possibility to not only decrease my medication dosages, but a strong possibility existed that I could actually reverse the diabetes and hypertension. It was about this time that I was contacted by Nurse Jillian who asked if I might be interested in trying nurse coaching to reach my fitness goals. I considered this an opportunity to get started to see if I could take control of my health and resolve my current physical state.

The coaching I received from Jillian was awesome! She was able to help me better define the specific goals I personally needed to achieve my healthcare goals. Since our time together was limited, she got straight to the point accurately identifying weaknesses in my previous approaches and helping me to ZOOM in on the things required to more quickly, and effectively, get me moving in the right direction. In addition to this, Jillian made me accountable by requiring regular check-ins for which I provided details for my strength training workouts and daily diet consumption that included macros! Previous coaches I had attempted to use seemed to only be interested in calories. But not Jillian! She wanted details, and that one approach kept me accountable in every part of the regimen she helped me develop.

Jillian helped me see and begin to understand the importance of remaining motivated and guided me to find ways to actually enjoy a regular “drive” to achieve my goals by sustaining personal challenges and developing short-term goals necessary to achieve the larger goal of improved health and appearance! With each success I have experienced to do more in the gym and with my daily diet, making better choices and doing so with greater joy! I truly feel BETTER, and it is beginning to show in my walk, talk, and physique!

The differences in strength training techniques make the difference in outcomes. While proper technique is always important, “what” and “why” you choose to do a particular technique is important to achieving goals and desired outcomes! In past, when I’ve pursued weightlifting at all, my approach has been to just jump in there and lift as much as possible until I got tired! Eventually, that approach led to complete burnout and a long time before I was willing to try again. With the coaching I received from Jillian, my return to strength training (weightlifting) has been amazing. I’ve encountered NO “burnout” and I find myself enjoying it more than ever as I’m beginning to see positive results!

Anyone serous about beginning or returning to the gym in a serious effort to regain their health and drive to regain their health, whether it be at home or in an actual gym. In addition, her ability to coach regarding diet as it relates to strength workouts is awesome. She was able to define and refine my daily diet in a way specific for my needs that would allow me to maximize muscle growth and provide appropriate hormone response to improve my workout gains without causing damage or weight gain! This was serious stuff and has proven effective. I can hardly wait to see what the next few months demonstrate as I continue to build on the coaching I received from Jillian! Way to go coach!
